mineral kingdom geopark wermlandsberg
Unique geology, tourism and education in collaboration – Now the world's most mineral-rich area will become a certified Geopark!
About the project
Filipstad Municipality, Värmland Museum, Bergsskolan, the National Museum of Natural History and the local history association in Nordmark are collaborating here to create a Geopark in the Filipstad mountain range, Mineralriket Geopark, which aims to showcase the area and take advantage of the site's unique geological values, conduct site development in the countryside and build a positive image of both the area and the region.
The aim is to develop a unique geologically interesting tourist destination in Filipstads Bergslag and create the conditions for applying for status as a Swedish Geopark. The main purpose of the Geopark is to showcase the world's most mineral-rich area and promote collaboration and knowledge sharing around geology and related issues – not least sustainability issues.
The project consists of:
- Collaboration and organization. The Geopark is built on strong collaboration between participating actors and the local population.
- Creation of a geopark. A geopark needs accessible information and nature guidance, so many activities will involve creating both physical and digital material that meets those requirements.
- School and education. Activities aimed at schools and visitors and the art of conveying geology in an understandable way.
The goal of the project is to have created collaboration and a fully functioning geopark that meets the requirements to receive approved status as a certified Swedish Geopark.
