Cold and freezer rooms with processing capacity
Better conditions for locally produced food – promoting opportunities for education, integration and increased employment at the same time!
About the project
Kristina at Ruds farm in Kil needed premises to be able to ensure the refinement of her own lamb production business, on site. She also saw that the project could generate development for others and meet an increased demand for locally produced food, and an opportunity for the premises to become a gathering place for the development of collaborations with both companies, associations and organizations. Kristina wants to offer more farms to use the premises and sees a need for more people to be trained in the industry.
The project's purpose and goal; to increase the proportion of locally produced organic food by installing a cold room adjacent to a farm shop and thereby increasing capacity, as well as being able to offer a location that provides opportunities for product processing and training on food processing.
The activities consisted of purchasing and installing a specially built container equipped with a cooling unit as well as soil preparation, training in processing methods, meetings for product development and collaborations, planning work, project management and marketing.
The project is now complete and the results have already significantly increased the dividend for the operations of the affiliated farm shop. A collaboration with the adult education association has resulted in courses on food processing and more synergy effects are being noticed, including through the collaboration with more actors with an interest in locally produced food.
The project is already well on its way to contributing to long-term positive effects regarding locally produced food, but also for job opportunities and integration work through course activities and increased turnover in the company.
